VoyageLA Magazine: Meet Grace Cho of Plan A Day Out
Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Cho.
Hi Grace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to create my own business and start something exciting and build it from the ground up. Seeing my parents who immigrated to the United States from South Korea in the 60’s and start their own businesses fueled my entrepreneurial spirit. It all came to a head when I had my daughter. I found it challenging to find fun family-friendly activities and events in the area. My hairdresser told me about PlanADayOut.com; a website that provides a number of family-friendly activities in Orange County. Coincidentally, the woman who started the website was planning to move on and do something different so long story short, I acquired Plan A Day Out – timing is everything. Creating a new business or acquiring a business is no different; both are exciting and challenging in so many ways. And when a pandemic hits, you’re faced to take a step back and revisit the goals you once had and either throw in the towel or pivot.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are moments the road is smooth but overall, it’s a bumpy ride. Nothing goes as planned, you always have to have a plan A and plan B. No matter how much you communicate, you need to get it down on paper. And never be surprised if you get ghosted more than a dozen times. At the end of the day, you have to be patient. You’re your own advocate.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Plan A Day Out?
Plan A Day Out has evolved in the last year and I now provide recommendations beyond Orange County. Plan A Day Out’s mission is to encourage families to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. There are many incredible places to see and hidden gems to explore that Plan A Day Out offers. At the end of the day, I want families to enjoy each day and experience life.
How do you define success?
Success for me is achieving the small milestones or when a follower messages me a thoughtful note about how Plan A Day Out has helped them in some way. Owning your own business can be extremely gratifying but it takes dedication, patience and a lot of love for what you do to keep moving forward.
