El Moro Canyon Trail

Looking for a fun outdoor activity that’s free and everyone can enjoy? We put on our hiking shoes, grabbed a backpack and headed to El Moro Canyon Trail near Laguna Beach.

El Moro Canyon Short Loop Trail is a 4 mile loop; it's a moderate hike. A beautiful canyon with ocean views, wildflowers and cactus (especially this time of the year) and grasslands.

Parking: There's free parking at Coastal Peak Park (at the top) - ssshh not too many people know and it's right next to the huge playground 😉

Trail: There's a number of trails in the canyon; the best one for families with small children (5 yo+) is the short loop. We started at the top No Name Ridge (downhill), hiked the Ticketron trail (upward climb & turns), stopped at Deer Campground (great midway break; there's a few benches and shade to have a snack). Then headed up to Red Trail Ridge and over to Boomer Ridge Trail. The canyon is only accessible by foot or bicycle. Watch out for mountain bikers and poison ivy (there are signs)!

Time: Trails are open from 6am to dusk. There's limited shade; we recommend you check the weather. The canyon can get busy on the weekends depending on the time you go so plan accordingly.

Notes: Wear layers; the canyon can be cold and/or warm. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen on hot days. Pets are not allowed in the backcountry. Not wheelchair or stroller friendly. Clean restrooms at the park; right next to the playground. Make it an outing and pack a picnic there's a large grass area, seating areas, basketball court and huge playground - a plus!

A fun afternoon with the Smith's, thanks for joining!
